Chennai: A credit/debit card point-of-sale facility where, for instance, devotees can make cashless payment as donations to the temple, has been inaugurated at the Sri Parthasarathiswami temple at Triplicane here.

The PoS terminal, sponsored by HDFC Bank, is the first for a temple in Chennai. The Meenakshi Amman temple in Madurai had already offered this facility for devotees. Devotees can remit donations to the temple, pay for the ‘thaligai’, ‘annadaanam’ and even pay the rent of buildings and houses that stand on the temple land. A team of HDFC executives led by Triplicane branch manager, G. Kevin, imparted  training to the temple authorities.

HDFC executives told DC that there are plans to set up similar PoS facilities in the Kapaleeswarar temple in Mylapore, Murugan temple in Vadapalani and the Lord Subramania shrine in Palani. The facility was inaugurated by temple Deputy commissioner P. Kothandaraman.
