Tirupati: The 'Maha Chariot' procession of Lord Venkateswara was on Wednesday taken out near here, amid chanting of vedic hymns on the penultimate day of the Brahmotsavam festivities.
Temple officials said about a lakh of devotees took part in the chariot procession.
Idols of Lord Venkateswara and His divine consorts Sri Lakshmi and Sri Padmavathi, adorned with several gem set ornaments, were mounted on the chariot.
Devotees pulled the chariot around with the help of huge twin ropes tied to the tastefully decorated massive sacred vehicle. The nine-day Brahmotsavam festival began on September 16.
