Cyberabad traffic cop’s veggie video grab goes viral
The incident occurred in the high traffic
Hyderabad: The video of a Cyberabad traffic cop seizing the vegetables of a roadside hawker at Uppal that went viral has kicked up a furore.
Close on the heels of a UP cop getting suspended for smashing the typewriter of an elderly man, the incident caught on camera shows traffic cops getting down from the patrol truck, snatching the vendor’s vegetables and speeding off.
The police said that it was routine to clear traffic obstructions under the City Police Act but the video gives the impression that it was something else. The incident occurred in the high traffic density stretch between Uppal and Boduppal on September 21. The police has denied committing excesses.
“Preliminary inquiry indicates that it was a routine operation. The police regularly clear vendors who obstruct traffic. This is done under Section 39 (B) of the City Police Act. The way the video was shot and presented may not be correct. We will conduct a detailed inquiry and if anything is found wrong, action will be taken,” said DCP (Traffic) Cyber-abad, Avinash Mohanty.
Tweets like, “He is selling vegetables on the road and what these traffic policemen did is shameless,” condemned the act.
Meanwhile, Uppal traffic inspector Janaki Reddy said that although it was a routine operation the video presented it in wrong light. The seized material in such cases is returned after the fine is paid by the vendor.
