HyderabadDoctors on Wednesday protested the appointment of five dental professors at the Government Dental College in Hyderabad as they had been waiting for promotions for the last five years. The assistant professors alleged that they had been waiting for promotions for the last five years but instead of giving them their due, doctors on contract basis were being appointed. The doctors protested outside the director of health and medical education’s office and also sent a representation to the government.

Senior dentist Dr R. Krishna said, “The semi-autonomous posts were created when there were less professors and a severe need was felt. That clause does not apply now with existing professors waiting for promotions.” The doctors have demanded withdrawal of the notification and to give the existing doctors their due. Another senior doctor said, “There is a lot of restlessness in the medical and health department because of the delaying tactics of the government. The doctors are very upset and want the government to act soon.”
