Tirupati: New litter carriers launched
Tirupati will get a new look soon, says city commissioner
Tirupati: Tirupati took another active step towards gaining the smart city status with the launch of new compact litter carrying vehicles working on hydraulic pressure.
The new system would prevent garbage from falling on the road while transported to dumping yards and would arrest the foul smell of litter from spreading out.
The four compact vehicles, costing Rs 1. 12 crore, have been launched as part of the waste management programme and are better than the earlier garbage carrying vehicles which used to spill garbage on the roads.
It may be recalled that the temple town, along with other 100 cities in the country, was selected for smart city status by the central government. As part of the first phase of the project Rs 100 crore has been released for various developmental works. A task force meeting headed by district collector Siddarth Jain discussed the matter with various department officials for the distribution fund.
“Apart from four compact vehicles, we are planning to bring more vehicles and actions to improve sanitation in the town,” said superintendent of municipal engineering department Mr Sudhakar.
Meanwhile, the municipal commissioner Vinay Chand directed the officials of health and sanitary department to take necessary steps to imp-ro-ve the look of the town.
“As part of smart city project, Tirupati would so-on get a new look. There would be uninterrupted supply of power, regular supply of water, green co-ver all over the town, dev-elopment of parks, roads, and improvement in sanitation and public health,” said the commissioner.
