European Union bans triclosan

Hyderabad: The European Union (EU) has banned the use of triclosan in three product groups like disinfectants and algaecides, film preservatives and fibre, leather, rubber and polymerised material preservatives.
 
It has asked officials to adopt alternatives to these chemicals. A safer, less harmful alternatives have to be adopted which also protects the human body.
 
In the meantime, the products already in the market need to be re-evaluated. The actual EU ban is going to come into effect only from January 2017.
