THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The efforts made by Satheesh of Mulloor to mislead investigators who probed his role in the murder of his brother, Shaji, fell flat because of the phone calls he made to aid Arogyadas.

Shaji’s murder had made headlines after his body was fished out from the sea at Pulluvila. Satheesh, a newspaper agent, was later named as a suspect in the case.

“The man had smartly left his cell phone at home at Vizhinjam when he went to Kovalam to kill his brother. After the murder, Shaji’s mobile was brought to Vizhinjam and thrown in the sea along with the body to make it look like the murder happened at Vizhinjam. He then claimed that there was no other person involv-ed and the murder happened at their residence during a brawl,” an investigator said.

However, the twist came when the cyber cell spotted that the tower location of Arogyadas’ phone and Sh-a-ji’s were at a common place in Kovalam for a long time.

On checking Arogyadas’ call records, police found that he had been in frequent touch with Satheesh and the duo had been plotting the murder for a long time.

When questioned about the reasons for the phones being in the same tower location, Satheesh finally spilled the beans.

Satheesh eliminated his brother partially because he would then become the sole recipient of compensation worth crores of rupees the family would get when their 23 cents of ancestral property are acquired for Vizhinjam transshipment terminal. Some of this money was offered to Arogyadas, an NRI.

The murder was planned during Arogyadas’ leave and he picked up Shaji and both went the former’s bike to the resort where the murder happened. The body was brought in a rented car and dumped in the sea.

Arogyadas then escaped to the Gulf at first but returned fearing that local police would seek the Interpol help and arrest him.
