Hyderabad: The Singapore government will be the master developer for construction of Andhra Pradesh’s new capital, Amaravati.

Following detailed discussions during Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s visit to Singapore, the AP and Singapore governments have decided to strike a G2G (government to government) deal.

A senior official, who was part of Naidu’s delegation, told Deccan Chronicle that five Singapore companies would form a consortium on behalf of the government of the island nation. Surbana and Jurong would prepare the master plan. Surbana is working on the modification of the master plan, according to the Capital Development Authority rules.

Sembcorb would take care of the seed capital city plan. Sing Bridge and Ascendas would execute the construction work of the capital city.

The official said Singapore would submit detailed proposals after which both governments would sign an agreement.

He said these five companies had been floated by the island nation's government exclusively for the purpose of building Singapore. Now that Singapore is well-established, the government is offering their services elsewhere.

Mr Naidu had invited the Singapore government several times to be a partner for the Amaravati development, and he pushed his point during the recent visit there. Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong assured Naidu of his government’s support in building Amaravati.
