Hyderabad: Agitated doctors of the health and medical department held a marathon meeting with health minister Dr Laxma Reddy, principal secretary Suresh Chanda and director of health and medical education Dr M. Ramani on Saturday to press their demand that all formalities of the bifurcation process be completed by October 15 and the process of promotions expedited.
Doctors are upset that despite the formation of Telangana, their issues remain unresolved, especially of promotions. Doctors of TGDA have been meeting Chanda and Dr Ramani repeatedly, but to no avail. A senior doctor explained, “The two are passing the buck on each other for quite some time. This is why we wanted a joint meeting with all the heads so that there is more clarity to take things forward. We have been promised that a career advancement scheme would be implemented wherein assistant professors would get a salary hike on the lines of associate doctors.”
As many as 900 assistant professors are waiting for promotions, some of them for as long as 16 to 18 years in the same post. Laxma Reddy asked all department heads to complete the process of bifurcation by October 15.
