Three Tamil Nadu fishermen detained by Lankan Navy
The fishermen were rescued after their boat sank and then were detained
Rameswaram: Three Indian fishermen were rescued and detained by Sri Lankan Navy personnel when their boat sank after being allegedly chased by the latter off Katchatheevu on Sunday.
Local Fishermen Association President N J Bose said a group of fishermen in several boats were fishing near Katchatheevu when the Lankan naval men chased them 'menacingly'.
A boatman lost control of the boat in panic and the vessel sank. Three fishermen onboard the boat were rescued and taken to Thalaimannar by the Sri Lankan naval personnel, he said.
One fisherman was missing after the incident, he added. He also alleged that the Lankan naval personnel snapped fishing nets of the fishermen and damaged six boats.
The fishermen had complained to the Coastguard and the Marine Police about the missing fisherman.
