Mumbai: Malayalam superstar Mammootty has landed in trouble over a soap advertisement he endorsed after a man approached a consumer court in Wayanad claiming a total compensation of Rs 50,000 from the actor and the manufacturer after the "fairness soap" failed to produce the desired results.

When the complaint was taken up by the Consumer court today, the National Award winning actor's counsel A Antony sought more time following which the case has been posted to October 12.

The complainant, K Chathu, a sculptor in this north Kerala district, told PTI that he had been using the "Indulekha" white soap, endorsed by Mammootty for the past one year but was "disappointed" with the results.

"I have been using the soap for the past one year. But the promised results have not yet been seen. A person of Mammootty's stature, who has lot of influence, should not have cheated the people", he said. The advertisement shows the 63-year-old actor recommending the soap for "white and bright skin".
