Fishermen join beach search for missing girl

She is suspected to have been washed away in a drain during flooding

Visakhapatnam: There is no word yet on six-year-old child Lavanya Athidhi, who is suspected to have been washed away in a drain during flooding on Thursday last week. The massive search operation by the GVMC involving firefighters, Navy personnel and professional swimmers, however, continued in the water for the fourth day on Sunday to trace the body.
 
The Class-I student was washed away after she accidentally fell into a storm water drain at HB Colony area at dusk. 
The search operation was intensified Sunday and extended to five nautical miles deep into the sea from RK Beach to Bheemili. 
GVMC commissioner Pravin Kumar, who is coordinating the search, said the Naval contingent included 12 divers, two Gemini boats, two ships and two copters.
 
Apart from the Navy, a total of 15 motor fishing boats also joined in the search. The search teams combed the drains from HB Colony to MVP Colony at least six times since Thursday. The Naval divers and fishermen are in opinion that the body might have got stuck between the rocks in the sea They also sy that normally bodies float and wash ashore after 48 hours of the drowning or is swept into the beach.
