Rs 15 lakh Kukatpally laddu beats Balapur’s Rs 10.3 lakh

Hyderabad: In the biggest auction in the city, the Ganesha laddu of the Kukatpally Addagutta Society was sold for Rs 15 lakhs. It was won by Mr Chanti Reddy, a native of Nellore. The day started with the auction of the famous Balapur laddu. This was won by farmer and businessman Kallem Madan Mohan Reddy for Rs 10.32 lakh, Rs 82,000 more than last year. Around 20 people participated in the Balapur auction which lasted for around 15 minutes. The bidding opened at Rs 1,116. In the first auction 21 years ago, the laddu was sold for Rs 45.
 
Mr Reddy said the 21-kg laddu would be sprinkled in his fields and portions would be shared with family, friends, relatives and the villagers. Realtors Sai Teja Bhaskar and Sai Shukla jointly won the auction of the Madhuranagar Ganesh laddu at Rs 10.4 lakh.
 
The Badangpet laddu went for Rs 6.5 lakh to former sarpanch Nadikudi Yadagiri. The wait of devotees for the distribution of the 6,000-kg Khairatabad Ganesh laddu continued. The laddu, which was made in Tapeswaram, will be distributed for free on September 30. The sentiment that winning the laddu brings prosperity was reflected at small pandals. Laddus weighing 2-3 kgs were auctioned for sums ranging up to Rs 30,000.
