Hyderabad: Telangana DGP Anurag Sharma said that the 11-day Ganesh festival in the state was completely trouble-free. In Hyderabad alone, more than 10 lakh devotees participated in nimajjanam procession that culminated in the Hussainsagar on Monday. New technologies used by the police helped the entire process, he said.
“Our monitoring system using cameras helped us cover every inch of the procession so that if any untoward incident occurred, the officers could proactively identify it and take measures on the ground and contain the problem there itself,” he said.
He said the police extensively used mobile phone services and 900 wireless sets to monitor the procession and for better coordination between the different wings.
The DGP said Hyderabad police commissioner M. Mahender Reddy, Cyberabad police commissioner C.V. Anand and their teams had pulled off a huge task with excellent organisation and coordinated skills.
Expressing his happiness over the smooth passage of the procession, the DGP thanked all personnel of the city police force for successfully achieving a major feat.
Slow traffic updates on police fb page
The Hyderabad and Cyberabad traffic police pages on Facebook were constantly updated with cautions about “slow traffic movement” across the twin cities.
Traffic police announced belatedly that restrictions would be extended till noon on Monday at Abids, Liberty and Tank Bund.
“I managed to listen to the entire playlist on my MP3 player while travelling to office. I got delayed by an hour on Monday and I ended up having a completely messed up day at work,” said Ms Anusha, a software engineer who commutes from Begumpet to Hitec City.
Cyberabad idols immersed peacefully
More than 10,500 Ganesh idols were immersed in various tanks in Cyberabad Police Commissionerate limits. No untoward incident was reported, officials said.
Cops made elaborate security arrangements under the supervision of Cyberabad police commissioner CV Anand. Police had earlier identified Saroornagar lake, Safilguda tank, Kapra lake, Hasmathpet lake and IDL tank on the outskirts as major immersion points.
Tight security and sufficient crane facility were in evidence at each lake. State DGP Anurag Sharma congratulated Cyberabad commissioner for excellent coordination.
