Tirupati death toll rises to 8
The body of the eighth victim was found on Wednesday

Tirupati: The death toll rose to eight in Sunday’s flash floods at the Kapilatheertham near Tirupati as one more body was fished out on Monday morning by a team of swimmers. On Sunday, the police had found and identified four bodies. Late in the night, fire brigade personnel drained the water from the temple tank and found three more bodies. The body of the eighth victim was found on Wednesday.
According to Tirupati East DSP Ravisankar Reddy, the victims were part of a group of more than 35 people who had gone to the tanks upstream of the Kapilatheertham waterfall for a picnic. The tragedy came to light only when the bodies of the first three victims were washed down the waterfall. The bodies of the victims were sent for post-mortem at the Ruia Hospital mortuary. District collector Siddarth Jain was present till 2 am in Kapilat-heertham. The search for the missing continued in the night and was resumed on Monday morning.
