KOLLAM: The students of SN College here affiliated to the Students Federation of India organised a protest march to the East Police Station on Monday.

The police used force to block the march in front of the railway station leaving several students injured. The students organised the march alleging that BJP and RSS activists had destroyed their flags during a meeting organised by the BJP at Cantonment ground near the SN College on Sunday.

“The police never take action against RSS/BJP activists when they manhandle students outside the campus. But when it comes to SFI, they are keen to book cases against the activists. On Sunday, our flags were destroyed by RSS/ BJP workers who entered our campus. The police is reluctant to take action,” said S. Vipin, SFI secretary

The SFI alleged that police used canes to beat the students up without any provocation. A student who broke his arm and another who sustained injuries on his head in the police attack are among others who have been admitted to the district hospital.

A march held at Azeezia, a private medical college, here also turned violent leading to several window panes of the college being broken.

The students allege that the college has given away all the seats under the management quota, without leaving any seats for merit students.

Police has taken about ten SFI activists into custody in connection with the incident. SFI is conducting a statewide class boycott on Tuesday.
