Corporation to build 6,000 toilets in Kovai

COIMBATORE: The corporation will build 6,000 toilets across the city as part of the Swachh Bharath mission. With the city getting a poor ranking in a cleanliness survey undertaken by the Swachh Bharath mission, the corporation has decided to build toilets for individual houses in the city.
A meeting of the Swachh Bharath task force was held in the city on Tuesday in which mayor P.Rajkumar, corporation commissioner K.Vijayakarthikeyan, deputy commissioner
P. Gandhimathi besides 22 corporation officials.
Addressing the meeting, the corporation commissioner said the civic body is planning to build 6,000 individual toilets under the Swachh Bharath scheme over a period of three years. “So far, we have got 2,000 applications seeking toilet facility from the public. The Central government will fund the project for building toilets soon,” he said. In a prelude to the meeting, 64 students from 32 corporation schools took part in a speech contest on Swachh Bharath.
The corporation will present Rs 12,000 cash prize for the winners in the contest.
