Marrying for the sake of polls in Uttar Pradesh

Lucknow: It cannot get more bizarre than this. A village head and a candidate for the panchayat elections in Uttar Pradesh found that his seat had been reserved for women and to make sure that power does not go out of his house, this 40-year-old promptly got married and had now field his new bride in the polls. 
 
This incident took place in Jauharpur village in Bhadohi district. 
 
The village head, Santlal, was all set to seek re-election when he found that his seat had been reserved for women in the fresh delimitation. 
 
A confirmed bachelor, Santlal , was upset at not being able to contest the polls when one of his supporters suggest marriage. On Monday, Santlal got married to Gita, daughter of Gulab Bind.
