Chennai: For the first time in the history of Indian judiciary and the 153-year-old Madras High Court, contempt proceedings against two advocates were beamed live on a television screen on Wednesday.
In an unprecedented move, entry into court hall was restricted and the proceedings were watched by over 300 lawyers who had gathered around a 55-inch screen inside the court premises.
The decision to broadcast the proceedings were taken after the September 18 hearing when over 100 advocates assembled before Court Hall 4 and disrupted the proceedings.
