New Delhi: After the horrific lynching of 50-year-old Mohammed Iqlakh following rumours over beef consumption in a village in Dadri, on the outskirts of the national capital, the family of the victim is now virtually being hounded by politicians and the media, forcing the Indian Air Force to step in to evacuate the family.

On Saturday, it was the turn of Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to visit the victim’s family. IAF chief Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha on Saturday said the IAF is looking at the possibility of moving the family to an Air Force area adding, that it was unfortunate that such an incident happened to the family of an “IAF air warrior”.

Iqlakh was the father of a serving IAF corporal. The IAF chief said senior IAF officers were in touch with corporal Mohammad Sartaj and his family and he may himself meet the concerned air warrior.

“Whatever protection is required, we are giving it to him. We are trying to move (them) to some Air Force area. We are with him and our people are there to assist the family,” he said.

IAF sources were cited by news agencies as saying that Sartaj is currently posted in Chennai and efforts are on to either enable the rest of the family to move there or transfer him to an area where his family can be.
