Kochi: Fort Kochi and Mattancherry in West Kochi and Durbar Hall Ground to High Court Jn on the mainland have been selected for development under the Smart City project.

A concept note detailing the priority projects will be submitted to the high-level committee headed by the chief secretary by October 10, mayor Tony Chammany told reporters on Saturday.

The concept note will be prepared based on the feedback received from the citizens during the consultative process held in the past ten days, he said.

Under the area development, West Kochi and the Ernakulam central business district comprising the area from Durbar Hall to High Court will be integrated with a modern and speedy water transport system.

"The areas to be covered in these two regions will be decided in coming days," Mr. Chammany said.

West Kochi has been selected as a region facing the maximum urban decay while Ernakulam CDB houses the highest number of public agencies, educational institutions, hospitals, courts and shopping centres.

The project also aims at introducing a pan-city smart solution that would enable the people to avail services and utility payments under a single card.

The open-loop smart card proposed by the Kochi Metro Rail Limited will also be incorporated to develop an integrated smart solution for the people of the city.

Energy efficient street lighting, WiFi spots, security surveillance cameras, recharging points for electric vehicles and removal of overhead cables in the region of area development projects are some of other highlights of the project.
