Telangana can complete 25 projects till 2019

Nakkalagandi project has the government proposed to complete 85 per cent of the work till 2019

Hyderabad: TS brought to the notice of the World Bank that it can complete only 25 pending projects in its present term till 2018-19 and the new projects would take till 2022.

The report estimates that the Palamuru-Ranga Reddy project would cost at Rs 35,200 crore, Pranahitha-Chevella Rs 35,000 crore and Nakkalagandi Rs 6,190 crore.

It proposed to spend these funds for the Palamuru-Ranga Reddy project and Pranahitha-Chevella over a period of seven years starting 2015-16 till 2021-22. Only at the Nakkalagandi project has the government proposed to complete 85 per cent of the work till 2019.

For Palamuru-Ranga Reddy project, the government proposed to spend Rs 13,400 crore in its term till 2019 and Rs 21,800 crore in the next term. For Pranahitha-Chevella, it proposed to spend Rs 17,000 crore till 2019 and Rs 18,000 crore till 2022.

The TS government sought World Bank’s help to complete 12 major, 13 medium irrigation projects which are pending besides taking up three new projects and Mission Kakatiya.

Speaking in the Assembly over the debate on the farmers issues on September 30, Mr Chandrasekhar Rao had stated, “The government will allot Rs 25,000 crore every year for irrigation projects in the budget for the next three years to complete all projects.”

However, the budget allocations promised to World Bank were also contrary.

It states, “The government will allocate Rs 13,931 crore in 2016-17, Rs 17,674 crore in 2017-18 and Rs 15,651 crore in 2018-19.”
