Hyderabad: South Police on Saturday arrested two persons in connection with the killing of two children in different cases. In one incident, a father killed his daughter as he was upset that he was having only daughters. In the other incident, a close relative killed a child over differences she had with its mother. Both the girls were six months old.
Police said Zainab Fathima was the third daughter of Md Saleem and Syeda Aliya, residents of Kamatipura area. Since marriage, Saleem quarreled with his wife over petty issues and he harassed her for giving birth to daughters, one after another.
On September 27, he picked up a quarrel with Aliya in the early morning, around 4am. During the quarrel, Zainab who was sleeping in the same room woke up and started crying. Saleem, who was already angry, caught her and hit her on the sofa in the room. The child fell down from the sofa, unconscious. When he took her to the hospital, doctors declared her dead, said West Zone DCP V Satyanarayana.
The second incident took place in Bhavani Nagar area. Khatija Qubri was the only daughter of Md Ismail and Haleema Begum. On the night of September 30, Qubria’s mother Haleema fed her milk, made her to sleep in a saree swing and went to her co-sister’s house in the neighbourhood. When she returned, the baby was missing. She searched the entire house and the surroundings, but later found the baby in a seven-feet-deep ditch on the premises.
