Kozhikode: After Theruvunaya Unmoolana Sangham, a people’s forum mainly consisting of women is being formed to extend financial and legal aid to dog bite victims. “The authorities take no measures to prevent dog attacks,” said Jose Maveli, chairperson of the Sangham that leads a campaign for eliminating dangerous stray dogs.
“The forum mainly consists of women and the victims as members. It will press for taking initiatives to control strays on a war footing.”
Chief whip Thomas Unniyadan will launch the forum at a function to be held at Chavara Cultural Centre here on Sunday. It plans to provide financial and legal assistance to the victims among other things.
“The number of dog attacks is rising in the Ernakulam district like never before. A documentary on the gravity of the menace will be screened at the venue,” said Mini Antony, state coordinator, Janaseva Women Protection wing.
Police had last week arrested three persons, including Mr Maveli, for culling stray dogs following a complaint the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animal (SPCA) filed.
