Kochi: In a submission which may harm hundreds of medical students pursuing MBBS courses in Georgia,  the Travancore-Cochin Medical Council has informed Kerala High Court that the MBBS course at Tibilisi State Medical University, Georgia, is not valid.

The council submitted that no registration can be given to graduates from the  Georgia university and that they need to get post graduation from Georgia to qualify as a medical practiti-oner.

N.L. Kala,  registrar of  the council,  made the submission on a plea seeking permanent registration for one Arvind as a medical practitioner in modern medicine.

The petitioner has applied for registration with reference to his qualification of medical doctor's diploma obtained from the university, Georgia, awarded on May 24, 2013.

According to the registrar,  the qualification is not recognized for enrolment as medical practitioner in Georgia without a PG degree. The council also decided to cancel the provisional registration and asked the applicants to surrender the same. The order also made it clear that the decision would apply to all medical graduates who qualified/qualify  from the university, Georgia.
