Hyderabad: A Walima function has turned bloody at Bhavaninagar area, as the bride’ brother was attacked by his father-in-law and his associates using daggers, killing him on the spot Sunday night, police said.

The incident took place when the function was going on. Two persons attending the event took the deceased outside the function hall for a talk, leading to the murder.
“Deceased Md Ahmed and his father-in-law Sirajuddin had previous enmity. Ahmed had filed a complaint with the police some time ago, saying his father-in-law was possessing weapons illegally,” police said.

Ahmed, 28, was a cloth merchant and resident of Bhavaninagar area. He was married to Sajida Begum seven years ago and has a five-year-old daughter Aleema Begum. According to family members, Sajida’s father Md Sirajuddin was in touch with one Wasif, who is allegedly in the illegal weapons business. “Wasif procured weapons from different parts of the country and supplied them illegally for a profit. Ahmed came to know of this illegal trade, and questioned Sirajuddin. An angered Siraj demanded that Ahmed should not reveal this to anyone,” police said.

However, Ahmed was scared over what was happening, and secretly informed the police about the gun-running. Since then, police kept a watch on the movements of Siraj and the others involved. As a result, Siraj developed a grudge against Ahmed. Days later, Ahmed’s sister Rubina’s marriage was fixed with Azeem, the son of Siraj’s elder brother. The Walima of the marriage was on October 4 at Idayath function hall in Bhavaninagar.

At the function, Siraj’s associates Pervez and Wasif took Ahmed outside the function hall, said Ahmed’s elder brother Sarvar. “Siraj along with four others attacked Ahmed with daggers. Later, Ahmed was taken to Asra hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead. Three of Ahmed’s younger brothers who went to the rescue suffered serious injuries. They were discharged from the hospital and are out of danger.
