230 more CNG buses this year: Minister Mahender Reddy

HyderabadTelangana transport minister P. Mahender Reddy said that the government had decided not to spare vehicles causing high pollution and steps were being taken to increase the number of CNG and LPG-based vehicles. 
 
The autorickshaws which are over seven years would also be levied a green tax. However, it would not be applicable to vehicles running on CNG, LPG, battery and electricity. 
The minister said in order to encourage green fuel, the government would waive the road tax for five years besides allowing a five per cent reduction in VAT on purchase of vehicles run on green fuel. He also said that the government was contemplating introducing more CNG city buses and would phase out polluting old buses.
 
Mr Reddy said that at present there were 134 CNG busses in the city and 230 more would be introduced this year. Replying to another question, the minister said that the government had already banned plying of vehicles like lorries, buses and private vehicles that were 15 years old.
