KASARGOD: The Kasargod police on Monday recorded the arrest of two more accused in the Vijaya Bank burglary case. Police arrested Rajesh alias Thorappan Rajesh and Abdul Khader who played an active role in the burglary.
Thorappan Rajesh is said to be an expert in making tunnels and got his nickname from that. The prime accused in the case, Abdul Latheef brought his friend Rajesh to get the tunneling work done.
Police said during interrogation, Rajesh said that he received only cash and not a part of the booty. Police arrested Rajesh from Idukki.
Abdul Latheef, Ismail and five others allegedly carried out the well-planned burglary at the Vijaya Bank Cheruvathur Branch a week back, looting 19.75 kg gold and Rs 3 lakh in cash.
Abdul Latheef had used Ismail to take the shops on the ground floor of the bank building on rent and planned the entire operation.
Only Latheef and Ismail got into the strong room and allegedly carried out the burglary, while others played a supporting role.
Abdul Khader was a member of the gang when Abdul Latheef and Sulaiman alias Ismail planned the burglary.
Khader allegedly helped the gang leaders to get the shops on rent knowing well that the plans were on to burgle the bank.
Police picked him up from Kasargod. Police have so far arrested six persons and one more is yet to be arrested.
Police have shown a recovery of 20 kg of gold in their FIR. However, police said the bank document verification was on.
Bank authorities had given a rough estimate of 19.75 kg missing gold to the police but the correct quantity could be ascertained only after proper scrutiny of the bank records, police said.
