THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: One of the key accused in the elephant poaching case was  arrested by forest officials from  Thiruvananthapuram international airport on Sunday evening.

Rajan alias Eagle Rajan of Injackal,  Thiruvananthapuram,  was held while he reached here from Sharjah,  said additional principal chief conservator of police Mr. Surendra Kumar.

He is involved in 13 poaching cases registered by the Vigilance. About 15 Malayalis had been booked for  poaching and with the arrest of Rajan,  almost all of them have been  nabbed. Rajan's wife Mini was held by forest officials recently.

Rajan was mainly involved in the sale of ivory. He was also  suspected to have smuggled ivory to foreign countries for sale. Money transaction was  carried out through the bank accounts of Mini, said sources.

Rajan was taken to Malayattoor divisional forest  office after interrogation by senior officials here. He would be produced before the court and remanded, forest officials said.
