Hyderabad: The Telangana prisons department is launching campus placements and skill training for prisoners to reduce crime and to make prisoners useful to their families and society. “The department has collected data about the socio-economic background and education of prisoners and are conducting job placements. We request companies to come forward and provide employment,” said DIG Narasimha. The prisons department is all set to add a new block for prisoners, one each at Chanchalguda and at Cherlapalli. The new block which will open on October 23 has four barracks: the Swastik barrack for terrorists; a barrack for detainees, one for the VIPs and the other for hardened criminals.
The barrack for terrorists has three levels of security and around 30-40 people can be housed at any given time. The hardened criminals barrack too has a similar level of security. The VIP barrack is the most spacious one with cells spread across two-floors, a maximum capacity of around 20 prisoners and a shuttle court. The cells are well equipped with shelves and a washroom with shower. A spa and nature cure centre run by prisoners for prison personnel will open soon, the officials said.
