Cop movies which has actresses donning the khaki have always fascinated the Tamil audiences. After Vijayashanthi, who was the first to play a tough police officer in Vyjayanthi IPS, actresses like Tabu, Gauthami and more recently Sneha have played action avatars by essaying a cop.
After a brief hiatus, Netru Indru fame Arundathi who was last seen in Sibiraj’s Naaigal Jaggiradhai, has been roped in for a movie titled Ardhanaari where she will be seen as a undercover cop. Sundara IIangovan, a protégé of national award winning filmmaker Bala, will direct the movie.
“The script of the film revolves around a lady cop who goes undercover for an assignment. The challenges she faces as a woman in her duty and how she overcomes it forms the crux of the plot. There are minor references in this film to the service sector, especially the police force, which is still considered a male bastion, despite the fact that many women carving a niche in the profession. Any similarity of current issues to the ones discussed in the film, is only coincidental,” director Sundara claims.
The actress has apparently undergone a workshop to pull off her adventurous character in the movie. “I took training with a few real life police officers to get that tough body language, and to learn things like holding a gun,” she says. That apart, Arundathi has also done few daredevil stunts without using a body double, a close unit source informs us. Selvaganesh has composed the songs in the movie.
