Filmmaker-actor Karu Palaniappan, who directed films like Parthiban Kanavu and Pirivom Sandippom, later turned leading man with Manthira Punnagai. His last outing as an actor was Jannal Oram, a couple of years ago. He is now back with a significant role in the film Kallan, directed by debutant Chandra, who was an assistant director to Ameer and Ram in Kattradhu Tamizh.

His upcoming film is said to be a hard-hitting story that sheds light on pre-agricultural hunters’ community. The story also deals with their plight and how the community has changed over the years. We hear that the shooting took place extensively in Theni and Kambam for 45 days, and Palaniappan will be seen in a rural getup with a thick beard and moustache in the film. It is said that the director has put up a strong technical team to support his script. MS Prabhu is the DOP while K has been signed up to compose the music.
National Award-winning lyricist Na Muthukumar will be working on the lyrics in the film. Up next, Palaniappan has Gramophone, which he will direct, and act in.
