Rape survivor expected to be back in city next week
The 22-year-old survivor had left for Gwalior on Monday night
BENGALURU: The sketches drawn by two artistes from Chitrakala Parishath, who composed them based on the description given by the 22-year- old BPO employee along with the three digits of the licence plate provided by her, aided the police greatly in catching the perpetrators, who sexually assaulted the girl on Saturday night.
The victim in her statement told the police that she had only remembered three digits of license plate of the Tempo Traveller following which a team of police along with other agencies verified all the CCTV cameras installed on the junctions and zeroed in on the van in which the crime took place.
“The police based on the information detained over 50 vans with the help of combination of numbers provided by the survivor. She was not specific about the details and gave police two to three numbers 1863, 1853 following which it took time for the police to track down the vehicle.
But, based on the permutation and combination, the police zeroed-in on all the vehicles which were bearing the registration close to what the survivor had told. After verifying over 50 vehicles and matching the description, the police seized the van in which the incident took place which bears the registration – 1836,” said Rohini Katoch Sepat, DCP (South-east), who is heading the investigation.
Rubbishing the reports doing the rounds that the 22-year-old survivor had told the police about the sticker with ‘Pagal’ written on the rear door window helped the police to trace the van, Ms. Sepat said that the victim did not say anything akin to that in her statement. “As I said, the victim had only provided the three digits to us based on which the vehicle was traced. The vehicle which has been parked in the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) is not the one in which the crime took place,” maintained Ms. Katoch.
According to senior police officer, the 22-year-old survivor who had left for Gwalior on Monday night is expected to come back to the city after a week’s time to complete the formalities.
