Thiruvananthapuram: The  BJP’s election committee meeting will be held  at Aluva on Friday to finalise the candidates for the local body elections.  The sub-committee would present district-wise lists.

The meeting is also likely to take up the  SNDP Yogam's alliance with the BJP while  the dissident faction is expected to raise its  voice against state president V. Muraleedharan.

The BJP had made a head start in the election preparations and constituted panchayat  committees. But after the moves for the alliance  with the SNDP Yogam began by sidelining the state leadership, the initial momentum could not be sustained.

The BJP leadership had decided that each ward would have three male and female candidates, including an SC candidate.

“We will join hands with SNDP Yogam in the local bodies elections. Currently, there are 86 lakh Ezhavas.    With  BJP’s likely vote share of  12.11 percent and SNDP Yogam’s  18 to 19 percent, the total would come to   30 percent,”  said a BJP leader.

The BJP would field candidates in all the 941 grama panchayats and the NDA allies would also be accommodated in some wards.
