Chennai: An 18-month-old child in Royapettah reportedly succumbed to complications developed due to dengue at a private hospital on Tuesday. The child, Pragatha, was down with fever symptoms for the last two days prompting her parents, Murali and Ramalakshmi, to take her to the hospital on Monday evening. After initial assessment, the child was deemed not to have dengue by doctors, according to the parents.
Later, at 9 pm, the parents allege that doctors reversed on their diagnosis, and said that the child had contracted dengue. The child, then, died due to the complications from the fever at around 4 am on Tuesday. However, Directorate of Public Health officials denied that the child died of dengue.
"We received a report from the corporation's health officer saying that the child's death was due to viral fever. She went into shock which made it difficult for the doctors," the official said.
