Osmania University: Exams today, students unaware of subjects
Some students are busy preparing for PSC examinations
Hyderabad: Internal exams will be conducted at the Osmania University and its affiliated colleges on Wednesday.
The situation in Arts College, which is on way to completing a century, has deteriorated to such an extent that many students are not even aware of the subjects they have to study and for which they will be writing internals.
One of the reasons for this is the fact that classes were not conducted for a month after August 3, the day when classes should have started.
Even after classes started, for many days the college was closed, thanks to bandhs which are galore in Arts College.
Many first year students did not come for classes until mid-September as they were not allotted hostels.
Around 100 first year students were allotted hostels just a few days ago. However, it is not completely the university’s fault as students and professors said that whenever classes are conducted at Arts College only around a dozen students come for lectures.
Jeevan, a first year student says, “We just have a few days of classes and a syllabus book for preparing for internals. In some cases classes were not regularly conducted by professors and in others where professors conducted regular classes just 4-5 students came to the lectures.”
Many students enroll in PG courses just to stay in the hostel and do not attend classes. Some students awaiting job notifications by the government skip classes to prepare for PSC tests.
Arts College professors said that the government should appoint a capable VC to arrest the fall in educational standards at the university.
