Hyderabad: Suspended Congress, Telugu Desam and BJP legislators on Tuesday launched a scathing attack on the TRS government, demanding immediate waiver of pending farm loans at one go, declaration of drought-hit mandals and succour to farmers to check suicides. While Congress legislators launched the Rytu Bharosa Yatra in Mahbubnagar, Telugu Desam and BJP leaders undertook the Rythu Kosam deeksha in Gajwel of Medak district, where Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao owns agriculture lands.
Alleging that Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao and his team were “frolicking” in Macau, China, TD deputy floor leader A. Revanth Reddy demanded their passports and travel itinerary be made public. He alleged that while farmers were dying, some in the government was celebrating birthdays in the Secretariat. TD-BJP leaders accused the TRS government of neglecting farmers and backing contractors and money bags for commissions. They promised to stand by the farmers till their demands were achieved.
Led by TPCC president Uttam Kumar Reddy, Congress leaders K. Jana Reddy, D.K. Aruna, Ponnala Lakshmaiah, Mohd Ali Shabbir and others called on the family of a farmer who committed suicide in Kamaluddinpur of Khilaghanpur mandal. Mr Shabbir accused the CM of behaving like a monarch and treating Telangana as his “jagir”. “KCR promised loans up to Rs 1 lakh would be waived and he should do it at one go to help farmers,” he said.
At Gajwel, Telangana State TD president L. Ramana led his party and BJP leaders in holding the ruling party responsible for the farmer suicides. “Agriculture is in deep crisis and suicides are rising by the hour. KCR claims Telangana is a surplus state and takes up schemes worth crores, but doesn’t want to waive loans at one go despite farmer suicides,” Mr Ramana alleged.
KCR tours to boost morale:
Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao will go on district tours to counter the Opposition accusation that the 15-month-old TRS government is “anti-farmer”. This was disclosed by Legislative Affairs minister T. Harish Rao at his chambers in the Assembly on Tuesday. Opposition parties have taken to the streets in the name of a Rytu Paramarsa Yatra to instil confidence among farmers and to appeal to them not to take the extreme step due to drought or inability to repay debt.
The ongoing Assembly session in all likelihood will be adjourned sine die on Wednesday following the completion of all government-related business. Almost all Opposition legislators had been suspended till the end of the session on Monday. “Soon after the session, the CM will tour districts to counter Opposition charges against the government,” Mr Harish Rao said.
The minister, who belongs to Medak district, said, the TRS has in principle decided to contest the Narayankhed Assembly bypoll in the district for which the Election Commission is likely to issue a notification in a day or two. “The CM has not decided on the TRS candidate yet, but will announce this at an appropriate time,” he added. Referring to reports in a section of the media on a Cabinet reshuffle on Oct. 9, Mr Rao denied any such move. Since the Assembly session is going to be concluded on Wednesday, the CM is planning to reconstitute party committees before Dasara, he said.
