COIMBATORE: The body of an office assistant at the Bharathiar university (BU) was found in river Bhavani in Mettupalayam on Tuesday. Police said Sadhasivam, 34, a non-teaching staff in BU was found dead due to drowning near Samayapuram on Tuesday evening. “His body was found stuck amid rocks in the river,” police said. Sadhasivam had left his father-in-law’s house in Pappanaickenpalayam on the afternoon of October 3 claiming to visit a temple, but did not return thereafter. His wife Priya had given a missing complaint with the Race Course station on Friday.

On receiving information from the public, the Mettupalayam police rushed to the spot and recovered his body. Police identified Sadhasivam with the help of the driving licence found in his wallet. They have also recovered a bike belonging to the deceased person near a bridge. After preliminary enquiries, police ruled out any chances of murder. “A post-mortem has revealed that there were no external injuries on his body. Also his family members had revealed that he suffered from frequent bouts of depression, but did not tell anyone on the reason for it,” police said.

Police said that Sadhasivam has gone missing several times in the past. “On earlier occasions, whenever he goes missing, his family members would trace him in some temple in the neighbourhood and would take him home. This time around, he might have driven to Mettupalayam on his two-wheeler and committed suicide out of depression two days ago,” police said.  The Mettupalayam police have registered a case of drowning and further investigations are on.
