Harish Rao: Mission Kakatiya on right track
The government has targeted to restore over 45,500 tanks in five years
Hyderabad: Over 6.25 crore cubic metres of slit has been removed from tanks and transported to agriculture fields for use as nutrients and fertilisers, as part of the first phase of Mission Kakatiya for restoration of 8,217 tanks in TS this year.
While 1,701 tanks have been cleaned, work on the remaining ones is in various stage of completion, irrigation minister T. Harish Rao told the Assembly on Wednesday. He said that of the Rs 1,307 crore released this year, Rs 614 crore has been spent and restoration works in the remaining tanks would be completed by March 31, 2016. The government has targeted to restore over 45,500 tanks in five years across the state.
The minister said that the Congress and Telugu Desam governments in undivided Andhra Pradesh had grossly neglected minor irrigation tanks that had been the major source of irrigation for Telangana right from Kakatiya rulers to the Nizams.
