Coimbatore: The who's who of the Coimbatore industry voiced their views and presented their perspectives for the Smart city plan of the industrial city. The Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner K. Vijayakarthikeyan held discussions with the city industrialists on Wednesday to gather their opinions for the Smart city plan.
Participating in the meet, the CODISSIA President E. K. Ponnusamy said, “the Corporation should utilize small machineries to clean the streets. The state government should provide uninterrupted electricity to the industries through separate electricity line. Besides infrastructure development, the Corporation should concentrate on increasing the green cover of the city.”
Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Coimbatore Zone chairperson Ravi Sam said, “the city witnesses heavy traffic during the peak hours. To enhance the vehicle traffic, the Corporation and police should implement the lane system on the main roads. With the help of the Corporation, the city police must increase the CCTV surveillance all over the city. The Corporation should exploit all options to lay the ring road to connect the major roads.”
Most of industrialists, present at the meeting, emphasized that the Coimbatore airport should increase air connectivity. “Apart from the need for air connectivity to foreign destinations, Coimbatore should have more flights to Bengaluru, Mumbai, and New Delhi” the industrialists said.
The Corporation Commissioner K. Vijayakarthikeyan said, “we have been collecting opinion from all walks of life, even from school students. The Central government has selected 98 cities for smart city scheme. In first phase, 23 cities will get funds from the Central government. We are working hard to enter into the first phase. We are developing a unique plan to become smart city."
