Khadi is the flavour of this election season in Kozhikode
Campaign materials include Khadi shirts and Dhotis
Kozhikode: Days before the election dates were announced, the Kozhikode Sarvodaya Sangh located at Vengeri here, one of the main khadi units in the district, has been receiving orders from various political parties for the supply of eco- friendly Khadi campaign materials. Campaign materials include not just khadi banners and flags but also Khadi shirts and Dhotis for which the demand has steeply risen.
“The demand for khadi products has picked up days before the election announcement", said Vengeri Sarvodaya Sangh Manager Vinod. There is an increase in retail sales to the tune of 25 per cent as compared to the previous election period," he said. Along with the trademark dress of political workers and leaders, the demand for the national flag and banners has also gone up with the recent ban on flex and plastic banners and boards.
"We can say that Khadi is the clear winner this poll season even before a single vote has been cast. As of now we are supplying nearly 1000 Khadi flags and banners to various political parties every day, and the demand is expected to go up more in the coming days", he further said.
Earlier Sarvodaya Sangh's demand was more from Congress party leaders and their supporters, but this year the centre has also received orders from BJP supporters, especially for flags, which shows the changing trends in the demand of Khadi, known as the common man's wear.
