New DelhiGerman auto giant Volkswagen, which is under a cloud over allegation of fudging its diesel engines emission tests, said on Thursday that it was recalling 389  units of its best selling premium hatchback Polo in India to rectify faulty handbrake.

The company had said on Wednesday that it had “temporarily” put on hold deliveries of Polo in India “due to a technical reason”. Polo cars being recalled are from a single batch of production from the month of  September 2015 for inspection and preventive repair of the handbrake mechanism. “The quality assurance department of Volkswagen India has determined that under certain conditions, the handbrake mechanism would lose effectiveness,” said the  company.
