Bnegaluru: After a six-hour long combing operation, fire and emergency service officials recovered the body of 15-year-old Prakash, who was washed away while playing in a storm water drain in Veeranapalya behind Manyata Tech Park on Wednesday.

Prakash’s body was fished out around 100 meters away from the place where he slipped and was washed away. He was studying in the 9th standard in Tamil Sangam School in DJ Halli. Prakash’s father, Venkatesh, a painter by profession and mother Jayamma, an attendant in a private school, were seen plunged into grief when the officials fished out the body of their youngest son.

The fire officer said that a criminal case would be filed against Manyata Tech Park for drowning and death due to negligence. He said the tech park was responsible for the death. He further said that a suitable compensation would also be given to the family of the deceased.

Police said that the tech park has not only put up a dangerous, impractical  makeshift cement slab on Rajakaluve, but it has also installed pipes to divert the flow of water from entering its premises, leading to such accidents.

A senior police officer said, “The rescue operation began at around 7 am and by 10.30 am, the body was spotted around 100 feet away from the pipe. It was a tough task as the water was filled with filth and it was not possible for the divers to get into the water. The body was sent for a post-mortem. The water was around 8 to 10 feet deep.”
