Hyderabad: Many houses and shops remained under water on Thursday too at Balapur after the main pipeline of Krishna Phase 2 burst on Wednesday.

Over 5 lakh gallons of drinking water was lost and though repair works started on Thursday, sources say that given the extent of the damage, it could take weeks.

Water had to be manually removed from the houses and many families slept elsewhere on Wednesday night. Material worth lakhs from shops were found floating in the water.

The HMSS&SB announced a shut down on Thursday as alternate supply from KDWSP Phase-I was arranged to provide water to Babanagar, Pisalbanda, Riyasathnagar, Moin Bagh, Fateh Shah Nagar, Shamshabad Airport, MIDANI, DRDL, RCI, CRPF, Uppuguda, Saibaba Nagar, Shivaji Nagar, Lalithabagh and GM Nagar under O&M Div. No. II.

On Wednesday, a six-meter stretch of the concrete pipeline had burst, leading to the area becoming inundated. HMWS&SB officials later shut off the supply.
