3 prisoners hurt in Viyyur prison clashes

Thrissur: Three prisoners suffered injuries in two separate incidents of gang war inside Viyyur central jail on Friday morning. ‘Kadavi’ Ranjith, who is booked under Kerala Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act (KAAPA) and his gang members attacked a member of their rival group in the first incident.
 
A prisoner named Basheer, who  was attacked by the ‘Kadavi’ gang with stones wrapped in cloth,   suffered head injuries. 
 
Ranjith, who is presently lodged in Kannur central jail, is a resident of Nedupuzh in Thrissur and has more than 20 cases of violence against him.
 
Superintendent of the jail Baburaj said that the clash erupted  around 8. 30 a.m. on Friday while breakfast was served.
 
In another incident, a gang leader from Ernakulam, ‘Maradu’ Aneesh, attacked a prisoner Henry Jose and both were injured.The injured were admitted to General Hospital in Thrissur and later discharged.
 
Viyyur police officials said that cases were registered against the prisoners on  the incident. According to them,  previous enmity was the reason for the clashes.
 
A few weeks ago, Kodi Suni, Anoop and Mohammed Shafi, the  convicts in the  TP Chandrasekharan murder case, had assaulted a fellow prisoner, who sustained injuries on his face.
 
Baburaj said that all the hardcore criminals from Kasargod to Ernakulam were lodged in Thrissur prison.
