Revise auto fares in two months: Madras High Court
On April 30, the court issued eight directives on the PIL
Chennai: The Madras high court has directed the state transport department to carry out the exercise of revising auto fares based on petrol prices every three months, within two months.
When contempt petitions filed by Coimbatore Consumer Voice and review petitions by the department came up for hearing before the first bench comprising Chief Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice M.Sathyanarayanan, thetransport commissioner Sathyabrata Sahoo appeared before the court.
In the PIL, the consumer organisation submitted that autos in Coimbatore were fleecing passengers and prayed for a direction to fix digital meters in autos as had been done in Chennai. On April 30, the court issued eight directives on the PIL When the matter came up on Friday, the Bench said it was giving the last opportunity to implement the guidelines.
