SNDP microfinance chief welcomes any probe
His statement comes after Yogam general secretary Vellappally Natesan welcomed a probe into the allegations
ALAPPUZHA: The SNDP Yogam has welcomed any probe into the allegations raised by Opposition Leader V.S. Achuthanandan’s about the misuse of the micro-finance scheme.
Mr K.K. Mahesan, chief coordinator of the scheme being run by the Yogam, said in a statement that Rs 4,000 crore taken from various banks was distributed by the unions concerned.
“There is proof for every paisa distributed under the scheme. VS is making charges without knowing the facts. The Yogam general secretary just gives the approval to the unions to take the loans,” he said.
He also rejected the allegation that the Yogam had taken a loan of Rs 15 crore from the backward community development corporation.
“It was just Rs 5 crore that was distributed to the unions at four per cent interest. The corporation has been given all details in connection with the fund utilisation,” he added.
His statement comes after Yogam general secretary Vellappally Natesan welcomed a probe into the allegations.
Mr Achuthanandan on Wednesday had alleged that high-level corruption had taken place in the micro-finance dealings under the SNDP Yogam and demanded a CBI probe into it.
The micro-finance scheme was introduced in 2004 to improve the living conditions of the backward communities.
