Four booked for drag racing, 13 vehicles seized in Bengaluru

Bengaluru: To ensure safety on roads, the traffic police in a special drive cracked down on youths who were drag racing in the city on Friday.
The traffic East Division police rounded up all the mechanics in the area and sought information on youngsters who drive dangerously. Armed with this information, the police arrested four youngsters, Abbu bakker, Pritam, Danish, Goutham, Syed Suhaib and another unnamed suspect. They have been booked for free wheeling, racing, reckless riding, riding without helmet and other offences.
Traffic cops in mufti were stationed near Richard Park, Stephen Road, More Road and Tannery Road to catch drag races. The drive began at 9 am and concluded at 10 pm on Friday.
Chandrashekhar Baba, DCP, Traffic (East), said, “It is not possible to catch riders when they are doing wheelies and drag racing. That is why we traffic police tapped mechanics and bike garages to get information on youngsters who have modified their bikes.”
He said, “It is dangerous to stop the riders when they are doing the stuns, as both the policemen and the rider himself might get hurt. A special team was set up in East zone and four such people were tracked and arrested. Others managed to escape. Most of the youngsters are habitual offenders and were found involved in drag racing and wheeling regularly. A team has been set out to nab the others who are on the run. The police have also seized 13 modified bikes from them, added the senior officer.
