Hyderabad: Students in Hyderabad can now listen to lectures from MIT and IIT professors, courtesy the Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT).
The IICT is developing a digital classroom with individual touch screens for about 200 to 250 students at its facility in Narayanaguda.
The institution intends to obtain licences from MIT, Harvard and IITs and NITs to live stream their classes or other inspirational lectures.
IICT director Dr S. Chandrasekhar said the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research had (CSIR) granted the institution its permission to build the digital classroom.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given a call for Digital India. We are developing a digital classroom. We have got a funding of Rs 2.5 crore. Students will have a touch screen in front of them and they can pause and rewind lectures if they want,” Dr Chandrasekhar said. He said the IICT is trying to obtain licences from MIT, IITs and other institutions for access to their lectures.
“It is not just school students. Even junior college students or engineering or graduate students can listen to these lectures. Even farmers can come and listen to lectures by agricultural scientists,” Dr Chandrasekhar said.
The digital classroom is expected to be completed in the next eight to 10 months.
