Manju Warrier, Rima Kallingal pledge support
Teresians to donate hair in solidarity with cancer patients
KOCHI: The Rani and Padmini of the forthcoming Aashiq Abu movie to be released on October 16 will flock to the St Teresa’s College (Autonomous) campus next Wednesday to pledge their support to the Teresians’ campaign for cancer patients.
At an event to be organised at the college auditorium at 11 am on the day in association with Canserve Charitable Society, a group of Teresians will donate their hair to support cancer patients who are in dire need of wigs.
Actors Manju Warrier and Rima Kallingal will be present on the occasion to pledge their support for the cause. The Teresians are expected to be joined by students from a few other women’s college in the district on the occasion.
“Hair loss visits cancer patients after they undergo chemotherapy. Many such women from the less-privileged classes are unable to afford the wigs that are available in the market as the price is on the upper side. However, to go to their workplace, these women need wigs. So we thought of providing wigs at affordable rates using the hair donated in this manner,” said K Sethuraj, a volunteer of Canserve Charitable Society.
Suja P Nair, secretary, Canserve Charitable Society, who is also a cancer survivor and faced hair loss during chemotherapy, said wigs randomly cost up to Rs 30,000.
“We hope to provide each wig for less than Rs 1000 using the donated hair to poor patients. Fortunately we got Manju Warrier and Rima Kallingal to support our cause. Those who are willing to donate hair should ensure that the length of the hair donated should have a length of 18 inch and it should be shampooed and conditioned. If people arrive after cutting their hair, then it should be secured with a hair band,” said Suja Nair.
